Mobile network 3 operate in a number of locations across the world including Australia, Sweden, Ireland and of course the UK. Owned by Hutchison Whampoa Limited based in Hong Kong, 3 were initially formed in 2002. One of the central tenets of 3 (and also the inspiration for their name) is that in every country they operate, the network provide 3G connectivity.
Three UK was launched on March 3rd 2003 (03/03/03) which was not only a particularly suitable date due to the numerical significance but also right at the beginning of the 3G revolution. The network launched the first video mobile network in the UK and by embracing the latest technology in mobile telecommunications grew at an unprecedented rate. Despite the rapid rise of the network, 3 did encounter minor issues with coverage in the beginning and so entered roaming agreements initially with O2 (up until 2007) and now with Orange (meaning that they also have access to T Mobile coverage).
