Founded in 1918, Panasonic have grown to become the largest electronics manufacturer in Japan - putting them amongst the largest 100 companies in the world according to Forbes. Up until 2005 Panasonic released a number of mobile phone handsets in the UK - from that point they ceased releasing Panasonic mobile phones to the international market. There have however been rumours that international launches are to start again in future; this should come as no real surprise as they continue to be one of the most popular mobile phone manufacturers at home in Japan.

Amongst their legacy in the UK are the line of VS flip phones and X range which bear the mark of the beginnings of smartphones in terms of functionality. Given their status in the international electronics market and prevalence in the Japanese mobile phone landscape; a re-emergence in the overseas mobile phone industry would seem to be a matter of when rather than if.
