From time to time an electronics giant will attempt to enter the mobile phone arena and struggle to keep up. When this happens, you'll often find that these organisations team up with existing mobile phone brands in order to pool resources and create world-beating handsets. You only have to look at Sony Ericsson to see a great example of just how successful this strategy can be. Unfortunately these electronic romances aren't always successful - BenQ-Siemens and its demise pay testament to this.

In 2005 Siemens Mobile division were struggling to make their stamp on the marketplace and after extensive talks were purchased by Taiwanese electronics experts BenQ Corp. Given the technological clout of Siemens and the stylish aesthetic sensibilities of BenQ Corp this coming together seemed a great idea and impressive handsets such as EF81 and EL71 supported the positive outlook. In the end however and amongst controversial claims about BenQ's motives for buying the struggling mobile division of the German electronics giant the company dissolved.
