The HTC Hero mobile phone has a cutting edge design with bevelled edges and an angled bottom, contoured to fit perfectly in your hand and against your face. It has a 3.2 inch colour TFT touchscreen display (320 × 480 pixels and 65000 colours), featuring an anti-fingerprint screen coating for improved smudge resistance and a longer lasting, clearer display. It has multiple touch input methods, an accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate, handwriting recognition and a trackball.

The HTC Hero is a quad band mobile phone with 3G (HSDPA 7.2 Mbps), GPRS, HSCSD, EDGE, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) and mini USB connectivity. It's powered by a Qualcomm MSM 7200 A 528 Mhz processor running Google Andriod OS v1.5. Google Android brings internet style innovation and openness to mobile phones. HTC Hero mobile has a limited 288 MB of internal memory (expandable via a microSD card).

The HTC Hero mobile phone is optimised for web access and multimedia (music & videos). It has a dedicated search button that goes beyond basic search, providing you with a more natural, contextual search experience that enables you to search through Twitter, locate people in your contact list, find emails in your inbox or search in any other area in your Hero mobile phone.

Other features of the HTC Hero mobile phone include: vibrate alert, polyphonic/MP3/WAV ringtones, speakerphone, 3.5 mm audio jack, 5 megapixel digital camera (with autofocus and video record), HTML web browser, GPS receiver with A-GPS support, digital compass, music player (supports MP3, AAC, WAV, AAC+ and WMA9 formats) and video player (supports MPEG-4, H.263, H.264 and WMV9 formats).

The HTC Hero mobile phone weighs 135 grams and is 14.4 mm thick (full dimensions 112 × 56.2 × 14.4 mm). It supports a stand-by time of up to 440 hours and a talk time of up to 8 hours. The Hero includes a Teflon coating, resulting in an improved, durable white surface that's soft to the touch.
