HTC Touch Diamond - Coming Soon

HTC Touch Diamond

The new touch screen handset from HTC is slimmer than Apple's iPhone and runs on the faster 3G network. HTC have laid down the gauntlet to Apple with a thin new phone that rivals the iPhone as a superior touch screen device. The Touch Diamond mobile will be out on Orange and other networks in June 2008.

The HTC Touch Diamond mobile phone has a more responive screen than the iPhone meaning thay typing will be much easier. The Touch Diamond will allow users to choose between three different keyboards on the touch screen: the traditional 12 key phone keypad (three letters per key), a hybrid QWERTY keyboard and a full keyboard. It also had several unique features, such as, the ability of the phone's web browser to re-arrange text on web pages to fit the mobile screen.

The HTC Touch Diamond mobile phone has a 2.8 inch touch screen across the diagonal rather than the 3.5 inch touch screen of the iPhone. The Touch Diamond has a very clever TouchFLO 3D system that allows your photos and music to be searched as you rotate the phone or via finger gestures on it's very impressive touchcreen. The touchscreen itself is a 2.8 inch TFT-LCD with full VGA resolution.

Inside the Touch Diamond you'll find better features than the iPhone such as Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fi, GPS and HSDPA for speeds up to 7.2 Mbps. The Diamond runs Windows Mobile 6.1, the latest, highly customisable, mobile OS from Microsoft. It's made of stainless steel and has more than a passing resemblance to the Nokia Prism round the back.

The HTC Touch Diamond mobile phone weighs 110 grams and is only 11.5 mm thick (dimensions 102 × 51 × 11.5 mm). The Touch Diamond supports a stand-by time of up to 285 hours and a talk time of up to 5.5 hours.

The HTC Touch Diamond mobile phone has the following features: tri-band, 3G, 2.8 inch 65000 colour TFT touchscreen, TouchFLO 3D finger swipe navigation, accelerometer sensor for auto rotate, handwriting recognition, polyphonic ringtones, MP3 ringtones, WAV ringtones, WMA ringtones, vibrate alert, 4GB internal memory, Qualcomm MSM7201A 528 Mhz processor, GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g), Bluetooth, miniUSB, Windows 6.1 Mobile Pro, SMS, MMS, email, instant messaging, WAP 2.0 / XHTML browser, 3.15 megapixel camera with autofocus, secondary VGA videocall camera, GPS with A-GPS, stereo FM radio with RDS, Pocket Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PDF viewer), Java, voice memo, MP3 player and built in handsfree.

If the alleged new 3G iPhone rumoured to be arriving at roughly the same time as the HTC Touch Diamond has a few new tricks up it's sleeve as well as a price reduction to the £169 level we seen a few weeks ago when O2 got shot of their 8GB first generation iPhone versions then the HTC Touch Diamond could struggle.
