18 month contracts are not such a good dealIt has been reported that large numbers of 18 month contract customers are now realising that a longer contract wasn't such a good idea. They may have got extra minutes and texts, but they are not getting a new handset as often as they would like. Many customers who want the new Nokia N95 or LG KE970 Shine will have to pay hundreds of pounds to buy one SIM free as they are still tied into their old contract and old phone after more than 12 months. A backlash against 18 month contracts is anticipated, with more customers opting for 12 month deals. The problem has also been felt by networks and dealers. They have found it difficult to sign up new customers who are tied into 18 month contracts. Orange have now started to push new 12 month contracts by offering more minutes and texts. T-Mobile have also introduced 12 month versions of their Flext tariffs and other networks are expected to offer better value 12 month contracts from April.
